The Big Egg Hunt | thepupdiary.com

25 Apr

We didn’t have to venture far to find the 260 beautiful eggs that were hidden all around the city. Last week they were all brought over to decorate the 30 Rockefeller Center plaza before being auctioned off for charity through Paddle8. Proceeds from the auction will go to Studio in a School, an organization that brings arts programs to public schools, and to Elephant Family, an organization working to save the Asian elephant.

Decorated by artists and designers (Martha Stewart, Ralph Lauren . . .) and presented by Fabergé, the 2.5-foot tall eggs are part of “the world’s biggest egg hunt” in a major city. The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt website has links to maps, photos, and auction information. Jeff Koons even decorated an egg that will surely sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars . . . but probably not as much as his $50 million orange dog . . .

Pups parade on Easter day | thepupdiary.com

22 Apr

We got up bright and early on Easter Sunday and headed to Fifth Avenue for the annual New York City Easter parade. Many visitors and guests were expecting an actual parade with marching bands and flowering floats. In reality, people just gather along Fifth Avenue north of 49th Street and admire beautiful Easter bonnets and colorful outfits. Some folks seem to wear updated Halloween costumes. I guess that’s one way to reuse a costume! Our friend Dawn from Bespoke Canine made bright and cheery yellow outfits for us. We had fun posing for photos and strolling along the Avenue. The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to be happy! Spring has finally arrived in the urban jungle!

Macy’s Flower Show – The Secret Garden | thepupdiary.com

28 Mar

We can’t wait for spring flowers to bloom in New York City! In the meantime, we’ll stop by Macy’s Herald Square every day through April 6 to see their beautiful flower show! There are over 30,000 blooms this year in Macy’s newly renovated main floor.

Visitors are greeted by a 14-foot tall “The Lady in Red Dress” beautiful floral sculpture at the main entrance. We felt like we were in a special fairy tale land! It did feel like a Secret Garden in the middle of the concrete jungle . . .

Barkfest at Bonhams | thepupdiary.com

11 Feb

Did we tell you we love this time of year when the Westminster dogs take over New York City?! One of our fave annual events each February is the Barkfest at Bonhams on Madison Avenue. What could be better than dogs, art, and biscuits? And the event also raises money for the AKC Humane Fund!

Dogs and Art!

Dogs and Art!

The brunch is a fun preview to the Dogs in Show & Field fine art sale taking place February 12. There are beautiful paintings, pins, plates, sculptures — all with a doggy theme! A John Martin Tracy painting valued at over $100,000 is one of the show stoppers! This year they had 2 showrooms with so much to look at:

Best of all they had homemade doggy biscuits and a nice goody bag. We got our own bag of Ryan’s Barkery treats and some other cool stuff.
