Easter weekend and the New York dog | thepupdiary.com

29 Mar

Doggies will dust off their bonnets and gowns and head to the New York City Easter parade Sunday morning, March 31 from 10 am to 4 pm.  People and pups gather on Fifth Avenue between 49th and 57th Streets to get a look at the beautiful and outrageous hats and costumes.  A real feast for the eyes!  The “parade” is more of a gathering than a marching procession.

We make a brief stop at the parade.  It tends to get a bit too crowded for us! We’ll check out some other options around town to celebrate the spring season.

-The Boat Basin cafe at West 79th Street will open beginning Saturday, March 30 at noon

-Nick Cave’s “Heard NY” brings 30 dancing horses to Grand Central Terminal

-Inwood Library is hosting a free dog talk on Saturday – humans only

No parking. Film shoot | thepupdiary.com

22 Mar

Living in New York City we get to see film crews and celebrities all the time. But it’s not as glamorous as it sounds! And especially if the shoot takes place in our neighborhood.

Filming on the streets of NYC

Filming on the streets of NYC

Huge 18-wheelers take up all of the parking spots. The trucks house the wardrobe, dressing rooms, supplies, food . . . Speaking of food, they set up tents with lots of carb-heavy snacks. There are smaller trucks with all of the lighting and camera equipment. Signs are posted everywhere. And once the shoot begins, they often block the sidewalk and make us take a different route. But the film industry does add jobs and money to the NYC economy. And we certainly like to watch TV and movies! Maybe one day they will ask us to walk by in a scene! Of course we would steal the show . . .
