Black Tie for Paws at Doggie U | thepupdiary.com

25 Mar

Bay Shore canine training facility, Doggie U, transformed their 13,000-square foot building into a Black Tie for Paws doggy party venue benefiting two great organizations, Shelter Link and Almost Home Animal Rescue this past weekend. Complete with red carpets, Puparazzi Pet Photography, live entertainment, and a dinner buffet for humans and canines — the second annual event was a hit!

The Life is Grruff doggy treats were delicious!  Especially the Liverlicious!  (And we are picky when it comes to biscuits!)  There was a great variety of over 50 raffle baskets. We won three baskets of goodies!  The highlight of the evening was the fashion show.  Celebrity judges Tanya Lee, Lori Stuck Zegel, and Tom Climi watched over 30 pups rock the runway in their designer duds.  Ms. Lee, publisher of  Gem Magazine, was a fan of our “gem” doggy dress.  We won third place!

We follow LIPetPlace.com to keep up to date on Long Island doggy events.  And don’t forget to sign up for their weekly event newsletter.  Check the Doggie U website for doggy training information.

Woof Woof! Wagging our tails to welcome spring! And hoping Mother Nature cooperates with some nice weather. We love this time of year! Check out spring activities for New York dogs and the people who love them.  (Check out additional ideas in Dog Events.)

Dog Beach and Vine
Join Discover Outdoors and other doggy lovers for a day trip to the North Fork Long Island wine region and off-leash dog play at the beach! These trips sell out each year and they have many repeat doggy costumers. The beach and vine trips are offered in the off season when doggies are allowed on the beaches.  Round-trip bus service leaves from Manhattan for the day-long doggy adventure.

Night on the Town
Spring is a very active time on the doggy social scene! Many organizations hold their big dog-friendly black-tie events when the weather is great and before pups and families head off to the Hamptons for the summer. Check out Black Tie for Paws on March 23, St Hubert’s Canine Cotillion on April 12, The Good Dog Foundation’s A Fetching Affair on May 30, and the Bideawee Ball on June 17.

FIT Classes
Spring is the perfect time to try something new. The Fashion Institute of Technology offers courses and a certificate in pet product design and marketing. Check out pattern making, learn about pet product branding, design, and creation and even gain information on the who’s who in the pet world.

Pet Super Adoptions
If you are looking to add to your furry family, this is the place to come! Best Friends Animal Society will host their New York Pet Super Adoption event on April 26 to 28 at the Westchester County Center.  Hundreds of dogs and cats from dozens of rescue groups and shelters come to this event to try to find their forever homes.  Volunteer opportunities are available, too.

Parades
Westies and Scotties parade down Sixth Avenue each year with the Tartan Day Parade – on Saturday, April 6 this year. Well-dressed pups head to the Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue.  Easter Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.

Old Westbury Gardens
Old Westbury Gardens host dog days twice a year – in the spring and fall – when leashed dogs are invited to tour the beautiful grounds of this 200-acre estate.  Spring dates are set for April 13-14 from 10 am to 5 pm.  Leashed doggies are free.  Humans pay $8.

Walkathons and Fairs
In addition to the many human walks where doggies are allowed to attend, there are also many dog walks and festivals in the spring. Check out the American Cancer Society’s annual Bark for Life on May 5 in Riverside Park.  The SPCA of Westchester’s Walkathon and Pet Fair in Yorktown Heights is always fun and will be held on May 4 this year.

Pet First Aid
The Red Cross offers cat and dog first aid classes several times a year.  Learn life-saving tips that could help you save your pet or another animal in need.

Bark Baby Bark for NYC’s Animals | thepupdiary.com

18 Mar

We found the perfect doggy sweater at Bark Baby Bark’s fall fashion show, so we knew we didn’t want to miss their trunk show at D Pet Hotels in Chelsea this past weekend. What is the perfect doggy sweater? It’s machine washable, not too heavy, a cute pattern, full coverage, and a great price. Their designer definitely knows what she is doing!

Furry fashionistas gathered at D Pet Hotels for food, fashion, raffle prizes, and adoptable pups from the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals.  We loved the Yappy Treats Cart doggy frozen yogurt!  We posed with pet expert, Ali McLennan and mom asked her about future grooming.  D Pet Hotel has a great spa menu including a “pop of color” for an additional $15.  That would have been pawfect for St. Patrick’s day!

Dear Diary. It’s me, Cubby | thepupdiary.com

We made a short video for the Dog of Hamann – Canine Lifestyle Fashion Award nominations. We had to summarize what we do in less than three minutes. That was ruff since we are always so active and on the go! Of course, mom left lots of important information out of the final version! But we did have fun going through photos and putting it together.
