We won a doggy treat basket by Dig In Dogs – yum! And our friend gave us one of her Rams Dog Food samples to try. We had a bite at the event and loved the all-natural doggy food!

Be sure to visit the K9Kastle page to learn about their adoptable pups. Their information: K9Kastle Corp. is a volunteer run, not-for-profit rescue group that rehabilitates and rehomes both cats and dogs. K9Kastle is a proud member of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, and is grateful to enjoy the generosity of Maddie’s fund.

Sandy’s Rescue Pals helps shelter dogs find homes | thepupdiary.com

9 May

We were so lucky to meet Sunny, the rescued pup who currently stars on Broadway as Sandy in Annie. Bill Berloni visited A Fair Shake for Youth last fall with the pup to talk about rescuing animals, community service, and “walking the talk”. Sunny was rescued from BARC Municipal Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas hours before she was scheduled to be put to sleep. Bill is a special man with a special gift and a very kind heart!

Sandy’s Rescue Pals, which launched yesterday, will showcase adoptable pups from Bobbi and the Strays each week at the Wednesday matinee performance of Annie. The audience is treated to a special intermission doggy meet and greet where prospective adopters can talk to shelter staff and fill out adoption applications. This new adoption program is sponsored by PEDIGREE and the first 15 adopted pups will receive a year supply of PEDIGREE food.

Pedigree has also teamed with Annie to raise $1 million for shelter animals. For each Annie the Musical ticket sold through December 31, 2013, PEDIGREE will donate $2, up to $1 million, to PEDIGREE Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs find loving homes.

Pups play poker for City Critters | thepupdiary.com

25 Apr

Toyota of Manhattan turned their second-floor showroom floor into a poker parlor last night for the second annual Ante up for Animals benefit with Bulldog Poker Events. We strolled over in our Jeep to see what it was all about.

We were greeted by a cute kitten from City Critters. The little tyke was looking for a home. Event proceeds were donated to City Critters to help them with their mission to find loving homes for cats and kittens abandoned in New York City, so hopefully this beauty will go home soon. Many City Critter adoptable cats stay at a local Petco and PetSmart while they search for homes. The organization also has a network of foster homes and volunteers.

Great prizes (a SCION car lease, a cruise, and more) were at stake, so folks were serious about the Poker. We were happy to check out the vendors, enjoy the music, chat with friends, and bid on raffle prizes.  We’re not sure if anyone did win the car since we left before the end of the tournament, but everyone seemed to have a great time.  Or maybe that was partly due to the flowing vodka and tequilla drinks.  BOL!

We did find out that several guests had expressed an interest in the cute kitten, so hopefully she will have a forever home soon!  Thanks to Dana from Whitegate PR for organizing a fun and philanthropic evening!  Can’t wait for the next one!

Bark in the Park with the Mets at Citi Field | thepupdiary.com

21 Apr

How lucky are we to attend a Major League baseball game?! The Mets organization teams with animal charities to host dog-friendly Bark in the Park events two times each season. The spring game took place this weekend at Citi Field and benefitted North Shore Animal League America. Hundreds of doggies took part in a field-level doggy parade and then watched the game from the Pepsi Porch. The first 500 pups received cute Mets-themed bandanas.

We yipped and yapped at all of the dogs and were truly astonished at the different breeds represented. It was a “meet the breeds” at the ballpark– from Dobermans to Saint Bernards to Yorkies, Westies, Huskies, and everything in between! The next dog-friendly game will be held on Saturday, September 14. Purchase your tickets as soon as they become available because this sells out every year. AND, many other Major League teams host events throughout the season! If you are traveling this summer, check the local team to see what they have planned. Play ball!!
