Rescue the Runway: Rescue is the New Black | thepupdiary.com

22 May

We’re eating Stella & Chewy’s treats while writing this post. Our Rescue the Runway goody bag last night had lots of cool items including our fave, Stella & Chewy’s! Was the second annual runway event as good as the first? It was even better!

Barking beauties, BarkBox, Badass rescue groups, and delicious bites — we loved the second annual Mr. Bones & Co. Rescue the Runway fashion show and dog adoption benefit! Held at 91 in the West Village, the event featured adoptable dogs, a runway show, a doggy kissing booth (with a pup named Cubby from Thank Dog Rescue), a BarkBox gifting station, and a great silent auction. Runway escorts included fashion designer, John Bartlett, BarkBox CEO, Matt Meeker, and Erin O’Sullivan from Susie’s Senior Dogs. But we have to admit that we only had eyes for the pups! From a tiny Chihuahua to a beautiful old-soul Siberian Husky, ten four-legged models made their runway debuts and captivated the audience with cuteness and personality. Some of the pups received multiple adoption applications — we hope they all find forever homes! Rescue groups and shelters included Animal Haven, Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, and Husky House.

Of course there was the requisite tearjerker video. This one showed Mr. Bones & Co. in action with dog rescue success stories from Iraq to the Bahamas to the U.S. Wishing them much success with their future rescue missions, too! If you’re looking for ways to volunteer with your pup, check out some of these ideas.

Dog party with a purpose | thepupdiary.com

13 Feb

What do you get when you cross some Pup Scouts with a Puccini? A fun dog-friendly party raising over $1,300 for the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals! Puccini, a Maltipoo on a mission, decided to dedicate his 6th birthday party to one of his favorite causes – homeless animals. He enlisted his Pup Scout doggy friends to help out by donating their time and talents to the cause.

Puccini’s party kicked off Pet Fashion Week and pups from around the nation came to wish him a pawsome year. Held at Honda of Manhattan on the west side, party goers enjoyed food, drinks, doggy treats, a silent auction, games, and photo opps. Dawn Deisler made an amazing doggy portrait cake!

And the Golden Mutt Award goes to . . . PupScouts | thepupdiary.com

This past weekend we participated in the 4th annual NYC Strut Your Mutt doggy walk hosted by Best Friends Animal Society. It’s one of our favorite NYC doggy events! The walk is held on the beautiful Hudson River, it raises money to help homeless pets, and several cool vendors and organizations come out to support the walk each year.

What’s cool about this walk is that rescue groups can form “dog packs” and raise funds for their own rescue efforts. Our friends at Yorkie911 Rescue formed a dog pack and raised over $4,000 to help Yorkies in need! The top dog pack honor in NYC goes to Long Island Bulldog Rescue with a fundraising effort of over $33,000!

PupScouts of DPFamily Troop 4 formed a dog pack team to support Best Friends Animal Society and raised close to $2,000 — earning the Golden Mutt Award for raising the most money for BFAS! PupScouts Cubby and Ginger visited the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah over the summer and hope to make a return trip with some other PupScouts next spring after the Blog Paws conference in May.

The PupScouts, a group of philanthropic pups, have more fun and adventure up their doggy sleeves! Follow them on their website PupScouts.org. All pups are welcome to become PupScout members or to form other PupScout groups around the world!

Bow wow WOW for Broadway Barks | thepupdiary.com

15 Jul

We headed to Shubert Alley Saturday afternoon to check out the 15th annual Broadway Barks pet adoption event. We went early because it was hot outside and the event tends to get very crowded with people looking to adopt animals and meet Broadway stars.

Shubert Alley gets ready for Broadway Barks

Founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore, Broadway Barks has seen hundreds of animals find forever homes through this annual event. Animal shelters and rescue groups from the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals line the Alley and part of 45th Street with adoption information tables and adoptable animals. Mom was approached several times to see if we were available for adoption. Nope! But we both did have similar starts as shelter pups looking for homes! We wanted to spend the afternoon at the Stella & Chewy’s table looking for treats!

On Sunday, while shopping for dinner at our local pet shop, we met a doggy who had been adopted the day before at the event. He was so cute and had a sad story with a happy ending. Someone had left him in Brooklyn tied to a tree. Thankfully some kind folks found him and took him to BARC Shelter where he got care before his adoption. So happy he found his forever home! We’ll bark to that!!

Wagging tails at the Wigglebutt Wedding | thepupdiary.com

10 Jul

There was lots of buzz leading up to the Wigglebutt Wedding, a “fun”draiser for Life’s Little Paws Cocker Spaniel Rescue held in Stratford, Connecticut the end of June. There were bridal fittings, cake tastings, special jeweled collar offerings, radio and TV appearances, PR releases, special Facebook pages . . . We have attended several doggy weddings where two pooches tie the knot and seal their relationship with a bark, a wag, and a butt sniff. But this Wigglebutt Wedding takes the (doggy) cake!

We have not even seen this much detail in many human weddings! (Not that two terriers are usually invited to human weddings – BOL!) From the Miniature-dogs-cats.com cake topper to the Bandit Rubio designed gown to the beautiful floral displays — Dexter and Zoe were some pampered pooches! And mom actually ate our Giggy Bites dog snacks!! Note to mom: don’t eat and drive! We had Bubba Rose doggy cake and Halo Pet treats – yum! The two doggy moms, Carol and Val, are busy planning another “fun”draiser for next year! Can’t wait to see what they have planned.
