Prince Harry is in town | thepupdiary.com

14 May

We met Prince Harry a couple years ago at a polo match on Governors Island. Well actually, dogs are not allowed on Governors Island, so mom met him without us . . .

Prince Harry is back in New York City this week and according to the papers, has a busy schedule. He is visiting youth, touring Super Storm Sandy areas, and of course, playing polo. The invitation-only fourth annual Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup charity polo match at Greenwich Polo Club takes place May 15. We did not score a ticket to this one!

Doggies are welcome at many polo matches in the area. The Greenwich Polo Club season begins on June 2. Gates open at 1 pm and games begin at 3 pm. There is a $40 fee per car. Bring a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery!

Celebrity Catwalk Paws in the City at The Salty Paw | thepupdiary.com

13 May

Although it was raining cats and dogs Saturday afternoon, we ventured out and headed down to the new Salty Paw boutique at the end of Pier 17 at the Seaport. (Read The Salty Paw’s Super Storm Sandy story here.) Celebrity Catwalk was hosting an event to promote their upcoming Paws in the City fashion show, which will take place on June 1 at Calumet Gallery. Fashion designers from around the globe are busy putting the finishing touches on their outfits that will be worn by over a dozen furry fashionista doggy models. Yes, we are modeling in this one! You don’t want to miss this fun event so get your tickets soon!

The Salty Paw

The Salty Paw

We absolutely love The Salty Paw’s new summer home at the end of the Pier! (This will be one of our fave summer hangouts!) Not only do they carry the most fun and practical doggy items (they have one of the best selections of local doggy treats in the area), they also have a wonderful water view, a friendly staff, and creative groomers! If you are looking to add a touch of color to your doggy fur coat, this is the place to come! Oh and did we mention that they have treat SAMPLES all around the boutique. YUM!! Celebrity Catwalk had goody bags for everyone with Wahl dog shampoo and other items. (Mom loved the Reena Treats cupcakes!)

The Salty Paw’s summer location: 89 South Street, the end of Pier 17 at the Seaport – walk outside to the end of the Pier and you will see their signs! The East River Ferry allows small dogs in bags and is a convenient way to visit the area.

And don’t forget to visit Celebrity Catwalk for tickets and upcoming event information!

We won a doggy treat basket by Dig In Dogs – yum! And our friend gave us one of her Rams Dog Food samples to try. We had a bite at the event and loved the all-natural doggy food!

Be sure to visit the K9Kastle page to learn about their adoptable pups. Their information: K9Kastle Corp. is a volunteer run, not-for-profit rescue group that rehabilitates and rehomes both cats and dogs. K9Kastle is a proud member of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, and is grateful to enjoy the generosity of Maddie’s fund.

Shorty Rossi and the New York Pet Expo | thepupdiary.com

4 May

We were lucky to meet Shorty and Hercules a few years ago at an event for the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. Today he was a special guest at the Greater New York Pet Expo.

Shorty Rossi

Shorty Rossi

We love his passion for helping dogs – especially Pit Bulls. He stars on ‘Pit Boss’ and also works with his rescue, Shorty’s Pit Bull Rescue where he rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes neglected dogs. Reading the comments on the Pet Expo Facebook page, we are happy to hear that people loved meeting him as much as we did!
