Shorty Rossi and the New York Pet Expo | thepupdiary.com

4 May

We were lucky to meet Shorty and Hercules a few years ago at an event for the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. Today he was a special guest at the Greater New York Pet Expo.

We love his passion for helping dogs – especially Pit Bulls. He stars on ‘Pit Boss’ and also works with his rescue, Shorty’s Pit Bull Rescue where he rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes neglected dogs. Reading the comments on the Pet Expo Facebook page, we are happy to hear that people loved meeting him as much as we did!

New York dogs – your perfect weekend | thepupdiary.com

26 Apr

We just looked at the upcoming dog event calendar – or our Pup Diary as we like to call it – and we are so excited about all of the fun events for all of us!

Park time in the City!

Park time in the City!

FUN: Art galleries, playgroups, doggy spas, shopping, parks, dog runs, parties . . . and sometimes just snuggling on the couch! Check the calendar to see many “fun” events you may want to check out!

PHILANTHROPY: It’s dog walk season! Sign up for one of the many charity dog walks benefiting animal shelters, rescue groups, and other organizations. The Bark for Life on May 5 in Riverside Park is always a lot of fun.

FOOD: The Hester Street Fair opens this weekend! The fair is held every Saturday through October from 10 am to 6 pm at the corner of Hester and Essex. They always have yummy food and often have dog treat vendors!

FROLICKING: The Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair takes place this Saturday, April 27. They have a “Petcurean” area with a doggy walk on the orange carpet and dog treats. Short films about dogs will be shown in the tent.

Pups play poker for City Critters | thepupdiary.com

25 Apr

Toyota of Manhattan turned their second-floor showroom floor into a poker parlor last night for the second annual Ante up for Animals benefit with Bulldog Poker Events. We strolled over in our Jeep to see what it was all about.

We were greeted by a cute kitten from City Critters. The little tyke was looking for a home. Event proceeds were donated to City Critters to help them with their mission to find loving homes for cats and kittens abandoned in New York City, so hopefully this beauty will go home soon. Many City Critter adoptable cats stay at a local Petco and PetSmart while they search for homes. The organization also has a network of foster homes and volunteers.

Great prizes (a SCION car lease, a cruise, and more) were at stake, so folks were serious about the Poker. We were happy to check out the vendors, enjoy the music, chat with friends, and bid on raffle prizes.  We’re not sure if anyone did win the car since we left before the end of the tournament, but everyone seemed to have a great time.  Or maybe that was partly due to the flowing vodka and tequilla drinks.  BOL!

We did find out that several guests had expressed an interest in the cute kitten, so hopefully she will have a forever home soon!  Thanks to Dana from Whitegate PR for organizing a fun and philanthropic evening!  Can’t wait for the next one!

Fun on set of Good Morning America | thepupdiary.com

24 Apr

Living in New York City, we get to do some pretty fun, exciting, and “different” things. We are surrounded by beautiful parks and water. We have dozens and dozens of dog-friendly shops to explore. We also have amazing media opportunities including popular morning TV shows!

Pup Scouts on Good Morning America

Last week, the New York Pup Scout troop was invited to be featured on Good Morning America in Times Square! We had to arrive in the green room very early in the morning. Everyone on set was so nice and seemed to genuinely like doggies. Even celebrity guests like Billy Ray Cyrus came over to say hello to all of us! (Zac Efron on the other hand . . . BOL!) Our on-air time was cut short due to important national news. But we still had fun promoting Beth Stern’s new show, Spoiled Rotten Pets.

The life of a New York doggy . . . what fun opportunities will come next?!

(Here is more about our troop leader, Tasha Bella the Manhattan Morkie.)
