Pretty in pink – we’re in The New York Times | thepupdiary.com

9 Apr

We were out and about Easter Sunday wearing our Sunday-best outfits.  Bill Cunningham from The New York Times was also out and about covering his On the Street photo diary of folks dressed up for the Fifth Avenue Easter parade.  He snapped a candid photo of Cubby as she walked along the Avenue with her pink ruffles bouncing in the wind.  A pretty in pink pup!

NYC Tartan Day Parade | thepupdiary.com

8 Apr

Westies, Scotties, and ponies — oh my!! Just under 100 cute terriers marched in NYC’s annual Tartan Day Parade this year on Saturday afternoon. We met along West 44th Street to greet the other doggies, listen to the bands practice, and ooh and aah over cute pups dressed in Highland kilts. We even met the famous “sweater” ponies who are promoting Scottish tourism. The Shetland ponies were so cute and so calm. Especially with dozens of yapping terriers all around them! The marching kicked off around 2 pm. We headed north on Sixth Avenue up to Central Park. Most of our friends had a doggy lunch date in the park. Mom had to get us home early for another event . . . Our pup diary is always full!

Spoiled Rotten Pets with Beth Stern | thepupdiary.com

8 Apr

We are lucky pups! We get to see the beautiful (and very funny) Beth Stern all around town at animal charity events and gatherings.  Beth is an animal advocate and spokesperson for North Shore Animal League America.  She is also an author and wife to Howard Stern.  Her new “pet” project, Spoiled Rotten Pets on National Geographic, follows pet parents and their pampered pets on their adventures.  Our New York Pup Scout troop stars in the very first episode airing on April 20.   We can’t wait to see our doggy friends on the show!  (Of course, Ginger has a speaking role!)  Set your DVR for 9:00 pm ET on Saturday, April 20.  We’ll be watching the show from a special red carpet Pup Scout doggy party!

New York Auto Show and pet-friendly vehicles | thepupdiary.com

The New York Auto Show (North America’s first and largest attended auto show) is in town this week at the Jacob Javits Center.  We checked out the show last year to learn about dog-friendly car choices and safety features.

This year, over 1000 vehicles are on display.  Edmunds.com just released their list of the top 10 most pet-friendly vehicles – listed below with some of their cool features.  Mom will have to head to the auto show to check them out!  The show runs through April 7 and adult tickets are $15.

  1. Dodge Journey – Available features include an in-dash cooler that can be used to store beverages, medicine or pet food.
  2. Ford Flex – The crossover offers ample legroom and wide door openings for your pet’s easy ingress and egress.
  3. GMC Acadia – The Acadia’s tri-zone climate control helps monitor temperature in the rear of the vehicle, thus ensuring that pets secured in back aren’t exposed to extreme heat.
  4. Hyundai Tucson – This Hyundai offers privacy glass that helps block the strong rays of the sun.
  5. Jeep Liberty – The Jeep brand offers specialized pet travel gear, including crates, carriers and a ramp.
  6. Kia Soul – The Soul comes standard with side-curtain airbags that can keep both two-legged and four-legged passengers safe in the event of a collision.
  7. Mazda 5 – The Mazda 5 has tethers and anchors in both the second and third rows, helpful since pet safety seats need to be secured in the same way as a child’s seat.
  8. Mitsubishi Outlander – The SUV also boasts fold-flat seating and stowable third-row seats – both of which increase the amount of room available for larger pets.
  9. Subaru Tribeca – Pet owners will appreciate the Tribeca’s five-star crash test scores, steering-wheel-mounted auxiliary controls and rear back-up camera.
  10. Volvo XC70 – The XC70 is available with a Volvo-designed pet barrier, created to remain intact during a collision.
