New pet products perfect for summer | thepupdiary.com

15 Apr

We headed to the Pet News Now pet product showcase last week where we saw some of the latest and greatest items we didn’t even know we needed!  Our first stop was the Fashion Institute of Technology designers who we talked about last week.  Here are some other must-have items.

Pawfect for Mother’s Day – the Pangea Brands Pet Toast

File this under “now I have seen everything”! The Pet Toaster is a small toaster that features 13 dog breeds and adds doggy silhouettes to toasted bread.  The toaster retails for $35.  It’s not the highest quality appliance, but it is cute!  We need the terrier toast maker!!

Remove Ticks Easily

We are really grossed out when it comes to ticks!  Or any blood-sucking critters for that matter!  This new product – Tick-SR is so cool!  The patented product dissolves the glue-like substance that helps the tick attach to dogs.  Best of all, you don’t have to touch the tick!  You apply the Tick-SR wipe to the tick and gently pull until it releases its hold on the dog.  The wipes are immediately going into our travel and city bags!  A necessity!!

Update Your Patio

We love The Refined Canine doggy (and kitty) furniture!  And not just because Cubby is one of their models!  We especially love the space-saving doggy den and side table combo.  The outdoor dog chaise lounger offers protection from the sun.  New items include cute fish tanks.  Josh is also active in the animal community and has donated products to animal shelters including Animal Haven

Sleep Tight

We bought “Sleeps with Dogs” human pillow cases from a boutique hotel last summer.  We love them and even gave a set to a friend as a gift.  So we were happy to see Dog SnorZ pillow cases at the show.  With a 330 thread count, they are soft and have cute sayings such as “The Dog Sleeps Here”.  The company just launched late last year and they have already received lots of good press.   Check their web site for retail locations.

Yummy Treats

When we walked into the room, our noses were in heaven!  What were we smelling?  Life is Grruff dog treats!!  They should bottle that aroma.  We love these treats.  And that is a big compliment coming from small dogs.  You know we are often picky eaters . . .  The Liverlicious is our fave.

Clean Air

We already wrote a brief review on the CritterZone Air Purifier.  This compact air purifier is pawfect for every home, office, and apartment.  Unless I am smelling Life is Grruff doggy treats, I don’t want to smell anything.  BOL!

We are excited to try the samples we received and let you know how they work.  The Wahl no-rinse waterless shampoo is first on our list to try. Being a therapy pup, we have to be clean!  This will be a great product to add to our routine.  We are going to ask our vet about the VetIQ VetGuard monthly flea and tick treatment.  We love to save money whenever we can and this looks like a great product to try!  We are bringing the Pack n Pride treats to our Yorkie Nation Meetup group event on April 21.  We are going to see what our Yorkie friends have to say about this new line of treats and we will let you know! We are going to research the Swamp Dogs of LA line.  The items are fashioned from genuine Louisiana alligator!  Custom orders are also accepted.

The Sato Project brunch | thepupdiary.com

15 Apr

Mom took the LIRR out to Douglaston Manor this morning to support The Sato Project and their annual brunch fundraising event.  The Sato Project helps rescue abandoned and abused dogs from Puerto Rico.  They mainly work at Dead Dog Beach where they rescue the dogs, fully vet them including spay and neuter, and then fly the pups off the island into forever homes.  Since The Sato Project’s inception in November 2011, they have rehabilitated and adopted an average of 26 dogs per month in the U.S.  One of their little doggies was a special brunch guest.

We love this video that their photographic volunteer, Sophie Gamand, made to show some of the behind the scenes work they do:

The sold-out brunch had flowing mimosas and bellinis, over 75 raffle prizes, New York City skyline views, and lots of dedicated volunteers and supporters.  Our friends from Yorkie 911 Rescue, Celebrity Catwalk, and other groups came out to support.  Designer Anthony Bandit Rubio was there and is working on a special project, Dog Vogue, with Sophie Gamand.

We’re Pup Scouts and you can be one, too | thepupdiary.com

13 Apr

Pup Scouts rule!  BOL!  We are members of Pup Scout Troop 4 through DPFamily.  This is the NYC Chapter and has over 20 members and growing.  There are other chapters around the country.  We get together for doggy fun and community service.  We also wear really cool uniforms and earn badges!  We have the green “Girl Scout” uniforms since green is one of our fave colors.  A lot of our doggy friends wear the tan “Brownie” color.  While out and about today we stumbled upon a Scout retail shop on West 37th Street.  Mom took us in to check out the cool camping gear and badges.  We would love to earn all of those badges . . . so we need to get busy!

New York dogs – your perfect weekend | thepupdiary.com

12 Apr

What makes a perfect doggy weekend in New York City?  We think it includes fun, philanthropy, food, and frolicking!  Our Pup Diary of events includes many doggy (and sometimes human only) events and activities.  Here is how we like to cover our bases!

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park

FUN:  Art galleries, playgroups, doggy spas, shopping, parks, dog runs, parties . . . and sometimes just snuggling on the couch!  Check the calendar to see many “fun” events you may want to check out!

PHILANTHROPY:  We conduct home visits for Yorkie 911 Rescue.  What does this mean?  We visit potential doggy adopters in their homes to see if they are fit doggy parents.  We meet their current pets and other family members.  (We also get to see lots of cool real estate!) We make several visits a month, but each visit is less than 30 minutes.  This is a very easy way to give back to the doggy community!  Contact your favorite rescue group or shelter and ask how you can sign up.

FOOD: Smorgasburg opened last weekend and we were there!  The Saturday location is not dog friendly . . . but Sunday’s beautiful river setting in the Tobacco Warehouse in DUMBO does allow pups.  Arrive early because it gets extremely crowded.  Small pups in bags are welcome on the East River Ferry and the Brooklyn Bridge stop is easy walking distance to Smorgasburg.

FROLICKING:  We love to frolic along the Hudson River walking paths.  The river cafe’s are beginning to open their doors now that Spring has sprung!  We love to walk from Chelsea up to The Boat Basin Cafe.  There are several dog-friendly cafe stops along the way!

CNNMoney and our tax refund | thepupdiary.com

12 Apr

CNNMoney wanted to know how we’ll spend our tax refund this year.  They interviewed us a few weeks ago and published the article today ‘How I’m Spending My Tax Refund’.  The title they gave us – Spoiling her dogs – was a bit funny to us.  (Even though we will be co-starring on Spoiled Rotten Pets on Saturday, April 20!)

We are using just about every penny of the money on doggie “stuff”.  Teeth cleaning – about $600 per dog.  Therapy dog certification renewal and annual Gala – $350.  Petplan annual health insurance for two pups – about $1,000.  Trip to Glen Highland Farm doggy rescue camp – $500.  Trip to Wigglebutt Wedding supporting rescue dogs – $300.  So, I guess we are spoiled in some way!  Especially considering some doggies don’t even have warm beds and good food . . .
